|Oakland County, Michigan - cougar sighting.
Reported Sun, Jan 9, 2011 at 12:49 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: Dec 25 2010
Location Description: Cobblestone Run subdivision on vacant lots adjacent to my home.
Originally spotted what we thought was a cougar in the spring/summer of 2010. It was actually spotted by my 25yr old son....he was sitting in his car on my driveway waiting for me to arrive (he was visiting) He commented about having seen what looked like a cougar in the brush on an empty lot next to our house. We thought no more about it and I joked with him that it was probably a dog or big house cat. Then later in the summer in roughly the same area I spotted for myself what I at first thought was a deer from the color of it (as we often see deer in that area). It move very stealthily and un-deer-like through the scrub and then walked up over a small hillock giving me a brief but good look at it. Definately was NOT a deer and I am convinced it was a cougar but didnt think there was any in Michigan. Then a week or so ago - we found tracks in the snow on our deck - they lead off across the yard to the area tha we had seen the first sightings. At first I thought nothing of it - thinking it was a dog or something but they were definately cat-like prints and pretty large for a house cat) then came across this web-site and couldn't believe it - sightings in Oakland County at Wixom (only a few miles away from me) in December !!!!
