Muskegon County, Michigan - 2002 Cougar sighting.
Reported Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 8:43 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: 5/02
Time: 2 am
County: Muskegon
Location Description: Sighted on a private dirt road off of White Lake Drive between Blue Lake Rd and Staple Rd. Heavily wooded area.
Sighting Description:
I pulled into my driveway at about 2:00 in the morning. As soon as i pulled in I saw a deer, which was in no way an unusual occurance, and stopped to watch it. It was approximately 10 yards in front of me. It froze in my headlights and then took off, as soon as it cleared the road, a cougar shot out from the woods chasing it. It was about 6 feet in length including a long tail. It cleared the road in 3 or 4 bounds. I immediately knew what it was, but of course nobody believed me. I reported it to the DNR (twice), but never got any sort of response of acknowledgement. An amazing experience that I'll always remember! It's good to see that such reports are taken more seriously these days. |
