Kent County, Michigan - cougar sighted.
Reported Mon 12/22/2008 7:05 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: December 8, 2008
Time: 4:10 PM
County: Kent
Location Description: Cannon Township on Courtland Drive 1 mile south of 10 Mile Road drinking from Barkley Creek. There was about 8 -10 inches of snow with no trees or vegetation blocking the view.
Sighting Description:
The cougar was medium brown in color, very large with an estimated weight of 160-180 lbs. I was 25-30 yards away looking out basement patio windows. I could see the white and brown around the nose as I tapped on the window a few times and it looked up. It then began drinking again and I tapped on the window a few time again. This time it looked around and I could see the left profile. The animal was about 3 1/2 yards long with a long, thick rope like tail of at least 3 yards. I watched this animal drink and move around for 7-8 minutes then left. Definite cat like features. It snowed that night, so the next day I waded through the snow to see if any paw prints were left. Due to the snow, all that was left were deep, big circular holes in the snow which looked like a large fence posts walked in the area. |
