Iosco County, Michigan- Cougar sighted.
Reported Thu 12/4/2008 1:10 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: 11-27-08
Time: 8:15 am
County: Iosco
Location Description: The cougars appeared on the edge of the frozen backwaters of the dead AuSable River. Cattails and beaver huts line the shoreline.
Sighting Description:
While preparing Thanksgiving dinner, my wife noticed some movement in the cattails some three hundred yards away from our home. My daughter, mother and myself approached the sliding glass door, I saw one large cat and two others enter onto the ice in plain view. They began walking westerly toward our home. They turned north and crossed the frozen river at approximately 100 yards from the house. Each had a light brown (tan) coat with tails that were long and tipped with brown or black. The tail reached the ice and continued upward approximately six inches off the ice. I have seen many bobcat, coyote, and this was not either of the above. I also viewed one last march in the same area, it was alone at the time. The camera is ready for the next encounter!! |
