Leelanau County, Michigan- cougar sighted.
Reported Wed 11/5/2008 12:03 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: 10/29/08
Time: 9:30 am
County: Leelanau
Location Description: 200yards north of rangers booth at d.h.day camp grounds, in sleeping bear dunes
Sighting Description:
I was sitting in a tree stand 20' off the ground hunting deer. I was overlooking a small clearing when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. It entered broad side to me, about 15yards away. Walked about 10 to 15 feet, turned tail to me walked about10 feet turned broad side countiued walking another 30' into the woods out of sight. My first observations were that it had alot of clearance between it,s chest and the ground, that it,s ears were not pointy, that it,s tail was long hung almost to the ground then curled back up about half the length that it hung down, it was kind of yellowish/brown, but the fur was slightly shaggy, not smooth and flat as Iv'e seen on tv. Also this cat did not seem as big as the big cats on tv. My assumption was that it must have been a younger puma, but still alot bigger than a house cat. |
