Otsego County, Michigan- cougar sighted.
Reported Thu 10/23/2008 10:13 AM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: 10/14/2008
Time: 10:30am and 6:30pm
County: Otesgo
Location Description: Rural county road. Wooded area however cat was sighted on the open road.
Sighting Description:
At 10:30 am on 10/14/08 my wife and I saw a young adult cougar nearly get hit by two trucks. The lucky cat sneaked between the two stoped vehicles and continued north toward opal lake. We stopped and looked but could not see the cougar again because the ferns and weeds were still too high. That evening my wife saw what we assume to be the same animal in the same location. The time was roughly 6:25 p.m. The next morning we stoped at the sight exited our vehicle and looked for tracks or other signs of the animal. We saw drag marks of what had been a road killed deer. As we entered the woods going north we nearly walked on a doe skeleton which was licked clean of all flesh. The sternum for the deer was gone and the ribs bitten into but still mostly intact. The deer remains were not scattered about as one would see if coyotes has been there. We have lived within two miles of that site for over thirty years. We have seen many bear, bobcat and coyotes over the years but until now have never seen a cougar. |
