|Presque Isle County, Michigan - cougar sighting.
Reported Thu, Oct 13, 2011 at 5:27 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: October 1 2011
Time: 9:30 am
County: Presque Isle County
Location Description: Along Rainy river, heavily wooded with cedar trees.
Dogs started whining, we assumed it was a deer. My wife went to the doorwall and said it's a cougar, I went to the doorwall to look, and dogs started to bark, I saw it for only ten seconds, a few steps. It's probably only 60 feet from the window to the spot. It was amazing to see it take off, and run so fast so quickly. The area is very thick with cedars and there was no open path. The body was similar to a large (125 black lab) but much longer. I would estimate the nose to butt between 4 and 5 feet with a 3 foot long very thick tail. The gate was very distinctive with the front legs reaching and pulling in unison. We went to the spot and looked for tracks but the ground is rocky with alot of leaf litter and sticks. The color was a tawny brown.
