|Lapeer County, Michigan - cougar sighting.
Reported Thu, Sep 1, 2011 at 4:22 PM to www.savethecougar.org
Date of Observation: 8/31/11
Location Description: Off Peters Rd, Columbiaville, MI. between LaValley Rd. & Klam Rd. A rural area with houses on acreage with some woods & farmland & high grassy areas. There are many deer in this area.
Sister & her family moved to a 7 acre parcel that is surrounded by woods & fields. They have cut some of the areas down & created some paths on the property to enjoy the wild life & walk their dogs they have 4 dogs they participate in dog sports. There are deer, turkeys & other wild life in the area. She called me & told me about 3 nights before her sighting she was outside letting her 1 dog out for a last tim e for the evening & was out on her deck when she heard a growling noise that she said startled her & she thought immediately that it sounded like some sort of a cat but definitely not like a house cat. She took the dog in & her husband & daughter come to hear it. She thought very little more about it & then last night she called me very excited & a little distressed as she was outside & observed what at first she thought was a deer in a tall grassy area walking along a old drive just beyond her property line. She stood watching it for a second & then she realized that was she was observing was not a deer & did not move like a dog but like a cat. It was tan in color & large. She was not able to give me a estimate on the size as she said it disappeared behind some shrub or bushes. She was I guess startled to say the least. About a year ago there was a article in a local paper of a woman who lives a few miles away said she saw what was a cougar that was larger then a lab. She t oo first thought it a deer or a dog & then realized as it came into view it was a large cat. She said what she saw was a cougar.
